The Mindless Babblings of Mike Young

It’s been a while.

Friday, March 31st, 2006

Hi everyone. I’m sorry for the long delay in posting, but the move has taken a bit longer than I thought. I’ve finally moved the last of the crap from my old apartment (including the table that will act as my desk until I can find something suitable).

I’ve got a bunch of stuff to put up here, including pictures of my new place with furniture set up and arranged. I’m even considering adding Collin’s Blog link because he’s been well behaved. Smile

Stay tuned.

Lessons for those cooking Ostrich

Don’t do it.

Oh, yes, it is a nice lean meat. And it may be cheaper than the chicken at the supermarket. It might even have a pleasant taste. But it still isn’t worth it.

I’ve spent the last 4 days scrubbbing down every area of my kitched with baking soda trying to expunge the odor of cooked meat out of my old apartment. Just once! Just once did I cook ostrich. It was intriguing ground ostrich. I liked the bison I got earlier, why wouldn’t I like ostrich? Oh how it smelled! And alas, it must have contained super airborne meat particles which have left my apartment with a faint, "what’s cooking?" smell for almost a week now.

Someone is coming to see my apartment tomorrow. Lets hope I don’t lose my security deposit over the bouquet.

Collin has a blog

Collin has created a blog, but in good conscience I can’t link to it.

You see, if it was typical Collin fare I would be all over it, but instead it houses such delectable treats as, “While the rest of the blogosphere rallies against the current building efforts being done on the levees in New Orleans, I take pause.” and “This method of information-gathering is likely to suffer from the so called self-selection bias. Basically, most students are going to transport the survey directly from their hanging file and into their circular file.”

I just can’t do it. Somehow as I read it, I picture Angela Lansbury at her typewriter with the theme from Murder She Wrote in the background.

Collin, when your blog links to Shark Espionage or Sex Law Overhaul (you know… your roots) let me know and I’ll add you.

Two down, one to go

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

Today I got my bedroom furniture moved from PA to the new apartment. Everything is slowly coming along. The only thing left is to move stuff from my current place down the street.

This will most likely be the hardest part. Sure, carrying sofas up my stairs, and driving 4 hours to supervise movers was tough, but nothing is going to compare to the fiasco that is my current apartment. There is crap everywhere. I’ve already gone through 4 bags of trash and there’s still more! There are boxes and crates and piles of stuff from all of my various previous places of residence. I have stuff from school, the last time I was in Poughkeepsie, school before that, the summer before that, and even stuff from freshman and sophomore years.

I also have a futon, now in pieces.

Lets hope I can get everything transferred or disposed of before my landlady comes knocking on my door to evict me like my cricket breeding neighbors.
